Empowering Students through Insightful Behaviour Exploration


The adolescent stage is a critical period marked by physical, emotional, and cognitive changes, making it a time of both excitement and challenges. To address the unique needs of students during this phase, an "Adolescent Behaviour Workshop" was conducted at National Public School, Ckbnr by Dr Preeti, a Consultant Adolescent Physician & a Medical Director of the Bangalore Adolescent Care & Counselling Centre. She is a recipient of ‘Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP) Gold Medal MD (Paediatric)’.

This workshopwas designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills and insights needed to navigate the challenges of adolescence successfully.

This workshop also aimed to empower studentswithtools and strategies not only to understand their own behaviour but also to build fulfilling relationships, contribute positively to their communities, foster healthy development, communication and relationships.

It also included interactive sessions on stress management techniques, emotional regulation, and mindfulness practices. Students learnt how to cope with pressure, develop resilience and maintain mental well-being.

As they begin this journey of self-discovery and growth, participants are better equipped to face the complexities of adolescence with resilience and confidence.








Toddler Tantrums

A seminar on the topic, “Toddler Tantrums” was held on Saturday, the 24th of June 2023. The seminar was conducted by Mrs. Christine, our psychology faculty and freelance counsellor. She has around 18 years of experience in teaching subjects Psychology, Organization Behaviour, Business Environment, Written Analysis & Communication, Research Methodology, Management Support System, Business Ethics & Human Resource Management to Management Students. She is also a member of the Interview Panel of Hindustan Petroleum (HP), to assist the other members in screening candidates, from a psychological perspective. She has also conducted Personality Development Workshops for Management students, to help groom themselves for their future careers. The session covered all areas relating to toddler tantrums and how one can deal with them. Parents benefited from this session and took home ways to deal with tantrums in their children.

An Overview of the Curriculum for Kindergarten was planned for the parents of Pre-primary on Saturday, the 1st of July 2023. Parents from Nursery, KGI and KGII gained an understanding of the teaching methodology and our curriculum which allows children to pursue learning in a holistic way using Montessori materials. Parents were shown various activities conducted before introducing a topic and how one can help their child at home.

Teachers briefed the parents on English, Math, Environmental Studies and the right formation of letters and numbers were shown in all the segments. The practice of reading in KGII was emphasised and the ways to practice reading at home were shared. From learning the sounds of each alphabet, to singing and performing every action for the phonic song, parents from Nursery and KGI felt like children all over again!

Overall, the session was incredibly beneficial and fruitful as parents learnt a lot!




The Period of Adolescence

Workshop on “The Period of Adolescence” for parents

Adolescence is a tough time for a parent and child alike. Adolescents experience rapid physical, cognitive and psychosocial growth.
To educate parents about the behavioural changes in adolescents, an event “The Period of Adolescence” was organizedby NPS, Chikkabanavara on 1st July 2023which was addressed by our counsellor Mrs.Christine who is a professional in Psychology.
A very insightful, interactive session was conducted for parents to tackle the challenges of adolescents. The Academic Director and Principal Mrs. Mary Thomas also shared some strategies to help parents understand the period of adolescence as a developing stage.Suchseminars build a healthy relationship between parents and the institution, who together dealwiththe day-to-day challenges of the children and guide them to lead a better life.




Leadership Skills

WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS


Workshops and seminars are an inherent part of NPS culture. A workshop on leadership skills was organized for the members of the school’s Student Council and the students of grade XII, on the 8th of August, 2022
The workshop focused on exploring the creativity of the students and strengthening leadership capacity.
The activities that were directed made way for the young leaders to interact and open up on their views. This workshop has helped in widening the thinking abilities of the students by helping them to think and act in an innovative and creative manner. This session had the young leaders determined to be better versions of themselves. The five-hour event was concluded with the vote of thanks by Khushi of grade XII.
The workshop taught the students the hallmarks of true leadership, built confidence in them and conveyed the message to the budding leaders of NPS, Chikkabanavara, that, “A leader is the one who knows the way and shows the way.”












Different Folks Different Strokes

WORKSHOP ON SITUATIONAL LEADERSHIP-A Leadership of a new language!!


A Workshop for teachers on ‘Situational Leadership; was organised on the 6th of August 2022.The session began with the participants listing out the qualities of a good leader.
‘The Situational Leadership’ methodology is based on the relationship between leaders and followers and provides a framework to analyse each situation based on the performance, readiness level that a follower exhibits in performing a specific, task or function.
The three skills of a Situational Leader are Goal Setting, Diagnosing and Matching. Goal Setting is an essential part of ensuring that the work planned can proceed effectively and in a positive direction. A Goal Must be smart that is S-Specific, M-Measurable, A-Attainable, R-Relevant t-Trackable.
To have a better understanding of the subject a video detailing each leadership trait was displayed and the participants were asked to diagnose different leadership skills.
The teachers were engaged in activities where interactive discussion took place wherein the teachers were given certain task and exercises on leadership traits and the merits and demerits of being over supervised or under supervised.The session ended on a positive note with great take aways in terms of the knowledge gained and the learnings to be put to good use in the coming days.













PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

A workshop on Professional Development was conducted on the 8 th of September 2021 by The Academic Director and Principal, Mrs. Mary Thomas for the Teaching as well as the Admin Staff. The workshop was interactive and activity based.

To break inhibitions among the participants and help them to ease into the session an Icebreaker was conducted at the onset of the workshop.

‘Self-awareness is the key to achieving wisdom’ with this thought process the workshop commenced. Statements like: ‘Who governs you? What is the core you? What factors control you? What are your areas of strength and weaknesses?’ were put forth to the group to ponder upon.

We as teachers have a crucial responsibility in shaping young lives and developing a child’s interests and skillsets to become responsible individuals of the future. Ultimately, you can become a role model in a young person’s life and enable them to succeed. Teaching may sound like an easy task, but it takes a great deal of hard work and planning to become successful in what you do.

All through the session it was reiterated that Passion, Purpose and People are the three key factors to develop at a personal or professional level.

The main objective of the workshop was self-discovery to enhance professional growth.






POSITIVE PARENTING


To focus on the developmental stages of the child and to work on parental empowerment, a workshop was organized in the theatre room for the parents and as well as the parent teachers on 24th of November 2018. The aim of this workshop was to enhance the knowledge, skills and confidence of parents in order to prevent behavioural, emotional and developmental problems in children and adolescents, the rights and duties of parents and children in today’s world and to strengthen the parents-children relationship.

The resource person Mrs Rani Rao Innes was welcomed by the school Principal / Academic Director Mrs Mary Thomas and Mrs Jayalakshmi, Pre-Primary Co-ordinator. Mrs Rani Rao, a very renowned speaker and an expert in the field, enlightened and took the parents into the journey of where they are going wrong and proven strategies in bringing up their children in a positive aspect. All the queries and doubts were answered by the speaker. A certificate was awarded to all the participants. It was a overall a fruitful session.
