MUHARRAM 2026: REMEMBERING THE SPIRIT OF SACRIFICE 2026-27

Our school community came together for a thoughtful and inspiring Muharram assembly that blended learning, reflection, and celebration of shared values.
The program opened with a confident primary-grade student who illuminated the significance of Muharram, explaining why this sacred month holds a place of remembrance, resilience, and compassion in the Islamic calendar. This set a respectful tone for the morning, grounding the assembly in understanding and empathy.
A crisp news reading followed, connecting students to the wider world, after which the hall echoed with positive affirmations—simple, powerful lines that encouraged kindness, unity, and perseverance. Building on that spirit, a student group rendered a soulful hamd—a song praising Allah, urah Al-Ahzab (Chapter 33 of the Quran) is deeply important as it serves as a spiritual, social, and legal manual for the Muslim community- filling the space with devotion and harmony.
Senior students then deepened the learning by sharing the historical and spiritual reasons for observing this month, highlighting themes of sacrifice, justice, and steadfast faith. Their well-researched insights helped peers appreciate the values that Muharram invites us to live by.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Priyanka Suresh, Principal, Senior School, emphasized the unifying power of cultural observances: “Festivals serve as a platform where diverse cultures converge, allowing individuals to learn and appreciate each other’s traditions and values.” Her words were echoed by Ms. Raji Samjith, who spoke warmly about how festivals bring joy and strengthen our bonds as a community, reminding us that celebrating together is itself a lesson in belonging.
The assembly also recognized excellence beyond the stage. Certificates and accolades were presented to young achievers in Spell Bee and various sports, celebrating dedication, discipline, and school spirit. These proud moments underscored that character and commitment flourish across academics, arts, and athletics alike.
The gathering concluded with a solemn pledge, reaffirming our shared commitment to respect, unity, and responsible citizenship. As students dispersed, they carried with them not just facts about Muharram, but a renewed sense of empathy and togetherness—proof that when we learn about one another’s traditions, we all grow stronger.
