LEARNING BEYOND BOOKS: A DAY AT THE KARNATAKA LEGISLATURE – 2025-26

On August 21, 2025, Grade X and Grade XI students of NPS, Ckbnr had the unique opportunity to visit the Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru, as part of an educational visit. The visit was aimed at providing first-hand exposure to the functioning of India’s democratic institution.
The visit was organised to help deepen the students’ understanding of legislative procedures and enrich their knowledge of the parliamentary system.
The visit began with entry into the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, a spacious and grand hall where the Speaker, Mr. U T Khader Fareed was presiding over the session. The students were guided to the visitors’ gallery located above the Assembly floor, from where they observed the proceedings for about fifteen minutes. They witnessed the active participation of the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), which gave them an insightful glimpse into how debates and discussions are conducted in the Lower House.
Following this, the group was led to the Karnataka Legislative Council, where the Chairman Mr Basavaraj Horatti was heading the session. At the time, the Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) were engaged in a discussion on fire safety laws in high-rise buildings. Observing the debate allowed the students to understand how the Upper House functions and how pressing issues concerning public safety are deliberated upon by lawmakers.
Through this educational visit, the students gained valuable insight into the functioning of both the Upper House and the Lower House of the Karnataka Legislature. Witnessing live sessions of both the Assembly and the Council proved to be an enriching learning experience, enabling them to observe the legislative process in action.
The visit to Vidhana Soudha was educational and also inspiring, as it gave the students a deeper appreciation of democratic institutions and their vital role in governance. The students were accompanied by their teachers during the entire programme.
