BAG-FREE BASH: A DAY WHERE LEARNING CAME ALIVE THROUGH PLAY

“Play is the highest form of research.” – Albert Einstein
At National Public School, Chikkabanavara, learning took on a whole new meaning as the Pre-Primary Wing came alive with excitement during the Bag-Free Bash held on Friday, the 24th of July 2026. With school bags replaced by nothing more than snack bags and curious smiles, the young learners eagerly stepped into classrooms transformed into vibrant learning zones, each filled with exciting surprises waiting to be explored.

Designed as a joyful revision of the concepts covered during June and July, the Bag-Free Bash encouraged children to revisit classroom learning through hands-on experiences, movement-based activities and imaginative play. Every classroom was thoughtfully curated to create an engaging environment where learning happened naturally through exploration.

The Nursery classrooms were filled with excitement as children travelled through fun-filled English, Mathematics and EVS stations. In English, the little learners crawled through a tunnel after identifying letter sounds, matched pictures to their corresponding letters and walked and jumped across colourful pathways while recognising sounds. Mathematics became an adventure as children explored the concepts of big and small and identified circle and square objects through interactive games. In EVS, they confidently introduced themselves while looking into a mirror, spoke about their likes and interests and completed
activities on facial features by placing the eyes, ears, nose and mouth in their correct positions.

The KG I classrooms were transformed into interactive learning spaces where every activity sparked curiosity. English focused on strengthening phonics through exciting experiences such as air tracing, sensory bins, finding objects beginning with specific sounds and word recognition games. In Mathematics, children enthusiastically practised value counting, number tracing, shape recognition and revised concepts like big and small and tall and short through engaging activities. EVS came alive with a beautifully created ‘My Home’ setup featuring a miniature kitchen. Children matched household objects to the correct rooms,
sorted clothing suitable for boys and girls, revised body parts and confidently connected learning to their everyday lives.

The KG II learners enthusiastically participated in a series of challenging yet enjoyable activities across all subjects. English learning became an adventure as children hopped like rabbits while collecting carrots with matching rhyming words and confidently read words displayed on a colourful pinwheel. Mathematics encouraged teamwork, speed and logical thinking through bead-stringing based on number recognition, exciting counting races and activities involving the concepts of greater than, less than and equal to. In EVS, the classroom was transformed into a fascinating World of the Five Senses, where children explored a
sensory corner filled with a variety of textures such as soft, hard, rough and smooth materials. They participated in activities involving sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing, including an exciting sound-identification game where they guessed hidden objects by listening to the sounds made inside shakers.

Laughter echoed through every corridor as children moved from one activity to another, discovering that learning could be active, meaningful and full of fun. Every station encouraged participation, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration while gently reinforcing concepts in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.

The Bag-Free Bash was a memorable celebration of experiential learning, proving that some of the most meaningful lessons are learned when children are free to explore, question, discover and play. The day beautifully reflected our belief that when learning is joyful, curiosity blossoms, confidence grows and every child becomes an enthusiastic learner.
