Grade 1 – MATH – Backward Counting and Comparison of Numbers
- Backward counting – Doesn’t a successful rocket launch push you to the edge of the seat?? The concept of backward counting was introduced to our first graders with an interesting concept of counting the countdown for a rocket launch. Children sat down like rocket rat and started counting for the countdown from 10,9,8,7….. The rocket was launched as they ended with 0. Children thoroughly enjoyed counting backwards in a fun way.
- Comparison of number – What did the hungry alligator eat?? Students were introduced to the story of the hungry alligator in the pond and the number of fishes in it. The concept “symbol of comparison” represents the alligator’s mouth and the fishes in the pond being the number. They understand that down at the swamp, the alligators like to eat the greater number (more fishes) as they are hungry.
